About Group Space
Group Space is a small, independent product built by a parent who got tired of the same four annoyances every school year, and eventually did something about it.
Why it exists
Every September the same thing happens. The school cannot hand out the class contact list, so one parent rebuilds it by hand, and then every other parent separately types the same twenty numbers into their phone. Somebody takes lovely photos at the picnic and they never quite reach anybody. The plan for the field trip lives in a group that a third of the families are not in. And the one question you actually needed answered is four hundred messages up, under a debate about snacks.
None of that is a crisis. It is just tedious, and it is tedious for everyone separately, which is the part that always seemed fixable. The whole idea here is to do those errands once, for the whole group, instead of twenty times in twenty different phones.
The other reason is quieter. The relationships kids make at six or seven have really long tails. Making it easier for the families around them to actually connect, without anyone having to join a social network or perform anything, felt like it was worth building. A photo here is just a photo. There are no likes, no comments, no feed, and no algorithm deciding what you see.
How it is built
The genuinely personal parts, contacts, kids' details, photos, messages, and event details, are encrypted on your device before they leave it, so the server storing them cannot read them. That is a design decision rather than a feature tier: it is on by default, on every plan, including the free one. The security page lists exactly what that covers and, just as importantly, the short list of things that stay readable so the app can work at all.
There are no ads, no trackers, no analytics beacons, and no data sales. The business model is one subscription, paid by the person who runs a group, and that is the whole of it. Everyone they invite joins free. That arrangement is deliberate: when the people using a product are not the ones paying for it, the product eventually stops being for them.
Who runs it
Group Space is operated by Group Space, LLC, an independent company in Ventura, California. It is not venture funded and there is no growth team. If you email, a real person reads it, though possibly not until after bedtime.

These are the only three addresses we run, and they are the ones the Privacy Policy and the Terms name, so whichever you pick it lands where those documents say it will. Support has the same list.
