Delete your account or group
Updated 2026-07-31
You can delete your account, or a group you own, at any time. You do not need to install anything or talk to anyone to do it, and you do not have to give a reason.
Delete your account, in the app
This is the fastest route and it works from any device, including a browser on a computer.
- Sign in at app.group-space.com.
- Open My Account.
- Scroll to Delete account at the bottom of the page.
- Confirm. You will be asked to re-enter your password, because this cannot be undone.
If you own groups that still have other members in them, you will be asked to deal with those first, either by transferring ownership to another member or by removing the members and deleting the group. This is deliberate: deleting your account should never silently destroy a group that other families are relying on.
Delete a group you own
- Sign in and open the group.
- Go to Manage group.
- Choose Delete group and confirm.
A group with other members still in it cannot be deleted outright. Remove the members first, or hand the group to someone else. Deleting a group removes its content, including its albums, discussions, events, and directory entries.
Request deletion by email
If you cannot sign in, or you would rather someone else did it, email legal@group-space.com from the address on the account and say what you want deleted. We will confirm your identity, action it, and write back to tell you it is done.
We aim to complete deletion requests within 30 days, and usually much sooner. If a request needs more time we will tell you why.
What actually gets deleted
- Your account record: display name, email address, password hash, and sessions.
- Your profile and contact details in every group you were part of.
- Your encryption keys, which are revoked immediately, so nothing further can be decrypted by your account.
- Content you own in a group you delete: albums, photos and video, discussion posts, events, and Chip In records.
What may remain, and why
We would rather be specific than reassuring here.
- Content in groups you do not own. If you posted a photo to someone else's group album, deleting your account removes you and your details, but the group's shared album stays with the group. Ask the group's organizer if you want a specific item removed.
- Encrypted backups, briefly. Deleted data can persist in routine backups until those rotate out, normally within 30 days. It is ciphertext, and nothing restores it into service.
- Records we are required to keep. Billing and tax records for a subscription you paid for, and any records of a legal or safety matter, are retained for as long as the law requires.
- Moderation records. Where content was removed for a safety reason, an audit record of that action is kept so the decision remains reviewable.
If you just want to leave a group
You do not need to delete your whole account. Open the group, go to your profile in that group, and choose to leave it. Your access to that group's content ends immediately and your details come out of its directory, while your account and your other groups carry on as normal.
Cancelling a subscription
Cancelling a subscription and deleting an account are separate things. Cancelling drops your groups back to the Free tier's limits and keeps your content. Deleting removes it. If you want both, cancel first, then delete.
Subscriptions are bought through the App Store or Google Play, so cancel yours in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings. We cannot cancel a store subscription for you. Cancelling stops future renewals, and your access runs to the end of the period you have already paid for.
If you get stuck, email support@group-space.com and we will help you find it, though the store still has to be the one to action it.
